One Nation Hip Hop Summit

The summit which intends to “Bring Hip Hop back to the people” was derived from various discussions with youth who concluded that Hip Hop was the best instrument to create social change by engaging diverse youthin a movement for peace, unity and social justice.

The One Nation Hip Hop Summit is an extension of the PYFC’s success in reaching youth through the power of Hip Hop culture, music and the arts. All of the proceeds raised through this event will enable the PYFC to continue to provide culturally relevant programming that reinforces the values of non-violence and respect for the diversity that makes up our community. The PYFC invites you to join our movement for the 3rd year to bring hope, positive values, and direction into the lives of youth.

The One Nation Hip Hop Summit is the largest cultural arts festival in Santa Monica for and by youth.

Mic Sessions

12 weeks
Wednesdays 7-10pm
Program instructors: Leila Steinberg and Asim Ali

The MIC Sessions workshop is a weekly group of youth that get together to perform their latest poem or song usually on an assigned topic and receive supportive and constructive feedback from the group including from Leila and/or Asim.

As Hip-Hop music became the expression of today's youth, Steinberg began training artists to develop voices powerful enough to reach a generation. While conducting poetry workshops in Northern California, she met Tupac Shakur and he became a regular participant in her class. They shared a vision of developing a space where each artist in attendance is encouraged, inspired and motivated to address social change in their work. Since Tupac’s death, Leila has been continuing these workshops with the same vision and purpose.
